"Mother 2 Muscle"
Body Sculpting/building is not for the faint hearted, nor is it for someone who loves the sight of food………..but after the birth of my third child I was in search of something that was going to challenge me mentally and physically. Low and behold it was the sport of Building Sculpting and this was going to launch my PURSUIT FOR EXCELLENCE!
Building Sculpting requires discipline in both food intake and training. Unfortunately both these areas I had personal battles with in the past. Through focus, I was able to achieve some huge success in the sport and most recently was handpicked to represent NZL at the World Body Building Competition in Luxemburg.
Through my training I have shred 37kg to compete and I owe a lot of this weight loss to running, gym training but most importantly to a very structured eating plan.
A lot can change in 3 years. It’s hard to believe that I was 93kg in 2008 but that was how much extra weight I was carting around. Then finally after the birth of my 3rd child Cruz I had had enough and decided it was time to make a change. A good friend referred me on to Alison Rainbow, top New Zealand Nutritionist and with her help, the battle began……..I remember half way through my weight loss journey feeling so good, I said to Ali, “now I wanna do a body sculpting comp” after seeing some amazing bodies come through her doors, she said “hang on Donelle lets just lose the weight first”…….so I did and in the process lost 37 kilos and 38% body fat to competing at my first comp at a lean 7.4%......
I placed 2nd in the Novice Figure Tall Class at the NZFBB Auckland Champs 2008, next to our very own fitness model/Pro figure competitor Raechelle Chase.
Now I was hooked and my passion and drive for training and entering into one of the most difficult sports was here to stay. I then went on to place 3rd at the Nationals 2009, Elite 2009 - 2nd Novice Figure Tall, ANB Australia - 4th Place Open Figure out of 10 amazing athletes. My most recent success was placing 2nd at the NABBA Auckland Champs and 1st in the INBA Auckland Champs Open Women’s Figure Class
There is no real secret and excuses need to be few and far between. I am a mother of 3 beautiful children, I work full time as a Sales Rep for Cytosport and when I get home, my time is mainly dedicated to being a mum. I am up at 4.30-5am and have 2 hours training done, come home straight to the kitchen and get the kids breakfast, help get them ready then out the door by 8-8.30am to start my day. People say “how do you do it”……you just have to make the choice and go with it, people eat junk food around me all the time, the kids eat McDonalds and lollies…you name it, I probably have it in my pantry…but there are NO excuses, I never cheat and at least when I compete I know there is nothing I could have done better.
Off season I still now put in a lot of hard work in the gym to maintain my contest body. My training consists of cardio and mixing it up a little. I love to run, chuck in the odd gladiator training at Ludus Magnus and that generally keeps me in good steed for my next comp.
If I can pass on any advice to anyone looking at some serious weight loss, DARE TO DREAM! If you want it bad enough, stay true to your dream and never give up until you achieve it!
Good Luck!
